The Purple Valley

£1,000.00

Acrylic paint on stretched canvas

The painting titled The Purple Valley is inspired by a frosty and atmospheric morning in the Peak District, England. Initially captured in a photograph, the contrasts of the frosty grass and tree against the dark ground was quite striking and I wanted to try to portray this. Subsequently, the colours that were in the painting have been amplified and the plant life that was there in reality has been stripped back. The composition of the photograph was great with the lonely tree standing out, and I wanted to show the connection of nature and humans so therefore the path that stretches out from the foreground to around the bend by the tree has been highlighted with bright, multiple colours. The unatural mark that humans leave on a landscape has been visualised through the straight, abstract lines of the path. The aim of this painting was not only to present the beauty of nature but also people's impact upon it.

It takes in a breathtaking landscape dominated by rolling hills covered in trees, enveloped in varying purple and blue tones. The use of rich, deep purples aims to create a sense of depth and tranquility, allowing the viewer to feel immersed within the serene valley. Contrasting greens and earthy browns of the trees and foreground add balance to the composition.

Overall, the artwork aims to evoke a peaceful and contemplative mood, inviting an appreciation of nature’s quiet splendour.
